A taste of Indonesia arrives here at DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru with Journey Through Java,” a limited-time culinary showcase celebrating the bold and diverse flavours of Javanese cuisine.
Running from 3 May to 25 June 2026 at Makan Kitchen, the showcase is led by visiting chef Deny Prasetyo from DoubleTree by Hilton Surabaya, bringing a curated selection of dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of West, Central, and East Java.
The experience offers a journey through Indonesia’s rich culinary landscape, where each dish reflects the heritage and regional identity of its origins. From the freshness of Karedok and the bold, savoury notes of Tahu Tek, to comforting classics like Soto Kudus and the deeply aromatic Rawon, the menu brings together flavours shaped by generations of tradition.
Hearty mains such as Nasi Liwet Solo, Sate Maranggi, and Bebek Madura Bumbu Hitam anchor the experience, showcasing the depth and complexity of Javanese cooking through layered spices and time-honoured techniques. The journey concludes with traditional desserts including Es Dawet Ayu and Bubur Madura, offering a nostalgic finish to the dining experience.

With over seven years of experience in Indonesian and Asian cuisine, Chef Deny brings not only technical expertise, but also a personal passion for preserving authentic flavours while introducing them in a way that feels approachable for today’s diners. His hands-on approach, attention to detail, and deep respect for traditional recipes allow each dish to honour its roots while embracing a refined, contemporary presentation.
“This showcase is about more than just food, it’s about sharing the stories and cultural heritage behind each dish,” said Mike Williams, general manager of Doubletree by Hilton Johor Bahru. “Through this collaboration, we hope to offer guests a meaningful connection to the richness of Indonesian cuisine.”
In conjunction with the showcase, Bapak Sigit Widiyanto, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Johor Bahru, will be invited as the guest of honour, reinforcing the spirit of regional collaboration and cultural exchange that underpins the programme.
